Love it or hate it, the little boxes we have called home for the past year are going to hold the majority of our memories of this season. Growth, change, loss, sadness, joy, love, and life. I love an in-home session for the authenticity and comfort it can hold. Haley and Alex were moving into a new home but wanted to document their first and dearly loved place together. It involved a puzzle, Ben and Jerry’s, and a loaf of fresh baked bread on the counter, and it felt totally sacred to me.

These sweet parents-to-be, early summer, and a little PNW magic made for an evening good for the soul ✨ So excited for these two and happy I got to help document that perfect baby bump 🤍🤍

Like a lot of people that have benefited from whit

Like a lot of people that have benefited from white privilege in their life, I have hesitated to share any of my own thoughts in fear of saying something wrong or being disingenuous or simply just adding unnecessary noise. I’ve nodded in enthusiastic agreement with causes and voices that support black lives, sharing the powerful words of others and showing up in solidarity for protests, reading the books and watching documentaries. But now is the time to push past fear and social anxiety to personally admit - I have work to do. Going beyond intellectual understanding of history and systems of oppression, I need to stumble through the discomfort of understanding where I have benefitted from and perpetuated these systems and false ideas. White friends that identify with any of this perspective - we can’t do this alone! We have this responsibility but we also have grace and forgiveness to stumble and learn together. Learning how to accept being called out, and to graciously but directly call out racism in others is not intuitive or easy, but it is the only way. We want to affect long term change to support the black lives and voices that we realize have been silenced and oppressed for so long. It starts with our own humility and courage to look at ourselves.
